• August 16 -- Reporter, Heal Thyself
Deborah Solomon questions Yale economist Ray Fair about his computer model of the presidential election, which predicts an easy Bush victory: “Are you a Republican?” When he says he supports Kerry, Solomon says: “I’m a little surprised, because your predictions implicit lend support to Bush.” Hmm. Is Solomon saying one’s personal political biases inevitably affect one’s professional work?

• July 20 -- William F. Buckley "Offensive," Al Sharpton Not?
Last Sunday, magazine writer Deborah Solomon said goodbye to retiring National Review founder William F. Buckley by asking him: "You have made so many offensive comments over the years. Do you regret any of them? This week she interviews left-wing activist Al Sharpton, who has made a career out of offensive comments. But she ignores them, and in fact invites Sharpton to criticize some Bill Cosby comments as racist.

• July 12 -- NYT to WFB: "You Seem Indifferent to Suffering…"
Reporter Deborah Solomon interviews retiring National Review founder William F. Buckley: "You have made so many offensive comments over the years. Do you regret any of them?....You seem indifferent to suffering. Have you ever suffered yourself?"

• April 20 -- Stalking Ken Starr's Religious Beliefs
Deborah Solomon jabs at Ken Starr's religious beliefs: "Do you pray every night?....Do you believe that atheists go to hell?"

 

• September 17 -- “Christ’s Girlfriend”
The Times Sunday magazine features a Deborah Solomon interview with the editor for “Revolve,” a fashionable Bible for teenage girls. Solomon calls one passage “positively regressive” and describes Mary Magdalene as “Christ’s girlfriend.”
