Al Sharpton

2004

• October 5 -- Sharpton's "Party for the People"
A profile of a fundraiser by race-baiter Al Sharpton reads like a jaunty press release: "There was no cover, minimum donation or official status necessary for a ticket to the fund-raiser at the Apollo Theater yesterday. Sure, there were a few dignitaries, celebrities and high-powered corporate types, but this was the Rev. Al Sharpton's 50th birthday party. In his words, this was for the people."

• September 22 -- Al Sharpton, Barry Goldwater, Same Thing
Peter Applebome's story about a chapter of the John Birch society lumps the racially inflammatory Al Sharpton with Barry Goldwater.

• July 29 -- Embracing Al Sharpton
Michael Slackman covers Al Sharpton's fiery convention speech and sees no worries in the Democratic party's embrace of the hateful activist. In fact, Slackman appears to be the Times' go-to guy for favorable Sharpton pieces that glide over his hate-mongering past.

• July 20 -- William F. Buckley "Offensive," Al Sharpton Not?
Last Sunday, magazine writer Deborah Solomon said goodbye to retiring National Review founder William F. Buckley by asking him: "You have made so many offensive comments over the years. Do you regret any of them? This week she interviews left-wing activist Al Sharpton, who has made a career out of offensive comments. But she ignores them, and in fact invites Sharpton to criticize some Bill Cosby comments as racist.

• December 9 -- Al Sharpton, "Civil Rights Leader"
"Civil rights leader" Al Sharpton wins a lawsuit. Reporter Thomas Lueck ignores the infamous Tawana Brawley hoax that resulted in Sharpton himself being successfully sued for accusing a prosecutor of rape.

• December 5 -- Where's the Fire? Ignoring Al Sharpton's Inflammatory Past
Michael Slackman's respectful profile of Al Sharpton ignores incendiary examples of Sharpton's hate-mongering past.
