Daniel
Okrent

November 15 -- "Investigative
Pieces
.By Nature, Carry a Point of View"
Ombudsman Daniel Okrent makes the case against objectivity.
September 8
-- Removing
"Allah" from the NYT?
The Times carries political correctness to an extreme in its coverage
of the terrorists in Chechnya. Also: Did the NYT substitute
"God" for "Allah" in a quote from a terrorist to lessen the
Muslim aspect of the attacks?
July 26 -- "Is
the New York Times a Liberal Newspaper? Of Course It Is."
Daniel Okrent, the Times' "public editor," probably didn't
make himself very popular in the newsroom when he admitted the obvious
yesterday.
January 19 -- Stop
the Presses: Times NOT Too Tough on Dean
Responding to email from angry Deaniacs, Public Editor Daniel Okrent
concludes the Times has not been too tough on Dean. Is he taking non-liberal
complaints into account as well?

December 8 -- Oh,
Mr. Okrent?
Times Watch extends a genuine (if slightly guarded) welcome to the Times new
public editor, Daniel Okrent, who calls himself "a registered Democrat, but
notably to the right of my fellow Democrats on Manhattan's Upper West
Side." But is a twice-a-month column sufficient to cover reader-related
concerns?
October 27 -- Times
Appoints First-Ever Public Editor
The Times announces the appointment of a former Life magazine editor, Daniel
Okrent, as the paper's ombudsman. A colleague of Okrent remarks: "He loves
fairness and accuracy." Times Watch hopes that turns out to be true.
