Hunger

• November 24 -- A
Fact-Starved Tidbit on Rising U.S. Hunger
The Times takes a musty liberal anecdote as fact: "In a
reflection of a growing need among the working poor, demonstrated in lengthening
lines at food banks and pantries, Congress approved an increase of nearly $1.5
billion in the food stamp program."
• March 24
-- Hunger
Stalks N.J. Suburbs
When it comes to paleoliberalism, the cupboard's never bare at the Times.
A front-page Metro story finds hunger stalking suburban New Jersey--and cites
figures discredited by none other than the Times itself.
• January 12 -- Times Finds Liberal Hunger Story Hard to Swallow
Tom Zeller questions the liberal findings of an annual hunger study that shows implausibly large annual increases in hunger: "…it is not surprising that the mayors' survey, which relies primarily on the collected impressions (and varied recordkeeping) of these agencies, would consistently report an increase in demand."

• May 29 --
“Hunger” in America
Coverage: Fact-Free
Peter Kilborn sees hunger in America: “The U.S. Conference of Mayors
reported in December that in a survey of 25 cities, the number of requests for
free food last year exceeded the 2001 average by 19 percent.” Kilborn doesn’t
mention the Mayors have said that 16 years in a row.
