Carlotta Gall talks to three Afghan youths released from Guantanamo Bay, but while even the liberal London Guardian quoted the boys about how much they liked Guantanamo and Americans, Gall ignored those positive views and focused on concerns about their captivity.

Times R.W. Apple, the Worm Turns -- Again
One day after saying things were going swimmingly for the allies, Times
scribe R. W. Apple worries Saddam will escape and that the war will result in
more terrorist attacks. Apple lets his speculations ride far ahead of the facts,
just as he did during the Afghanistan “quagmire.”

Afghanistan = Vietnam
Vietnam analogy raised by New York Times reporter Rick Berke. On PBS Friday night, he asserted: "Not long ago, we were practically declaring victory. How did we suddenly end up with troops on the ground, and are we stuck there? Is this, dare I mention, Vietnam?"

General Dowd Goes To War
Columnist Maureen Dowd bashed
generals and policy-makers for their decisions in Afghanistan, even as events
continued to prove her wrong.

• Barely two months into the
war on terrorism, correspondent R.W. “Johnny” Apple fretted that Afghanistan
was becoming another Vietnam.
